Overview
Federal funding is allocated to Community Health Centers (CHCs) through the annual appropriations process and the Community Health Center Fund, which must be periodically reauthorized by Congress. Funding for Community Health Centers, the National Health Service Corps, and the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) Program will expire on January 30, 2026.
CHC federal grant funding remains uncertain beyond January 2026. Without long-term reauthorization, CHCs would face financial instability, forcing them to halt expansion projects, scale back services, freeze hiring, or cut essential patient services. The uncertainty of short-term CHC funding extensions is already affecting the ability of CHCs to hire and retain staff or meet the needs of 100 million Americans without access to care.

Background on Funding
NACHC is focused on passing a bill to reauthorize the federal Community Health Center Fund. The CHCF provides about 70% of federal funding for health centers and ensures stable, multi-year base grant funding for Section 330 grantees.
This funding stream is determined by the Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee in the House of Representatives and by the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in the Senate.
Annual Appropriations
NACHC is working with Congress to ensure health center funding is included in the annual discretionary appropriations for the next fiscal year. This stream of funding is determined by the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee. Check out the letters and lists below to see the members of Congress who are supporting us in this year’s budget process:
